As a President and CEO, he has led all functions necessary for business success.

Starting his career with E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co., Steve advanced through the ranks with the company in sales, marketing, strategic planning and technical assignments. He played a lead role in driving the development and marketing of consumer products, including Reach® toothbrush, Carpet Fresh™, and Teflon II® cookware coatings. Following his successes in product development, Steve was selected for a three-year resident assignment in Hong Kong, where he directed corporate development and investment strategy for DuPont Asia Pacific, a $1.5 billion business that experienced 17% annual growth during his tenure.

In 1983, Steve took on worldwide product and marketing management responsibilities for the company’s $50 million industrial finishes business. In a difficult and dynamic environment, Steve orchestrated divestitures and restructurings/mergers of marketing, sales, manufacturing and technical operations, and ultimately delivered a $12 million savings. Subsequently, Steve served as the Manager of DuPont’s Development businesses and launched two new brands that generated $150 million in annual sales revenue. Steve also started and built the company’s environmental consulting, training, and seminar business.

Steve was then recruited by Union Carbide (now Dow) to establish and direct its Specialty Chemicals Division into high margin growth businesses. With a $350 million investment commitment, he spearheaded a portfolio in environmental services, biomaterials, and healthcare. Steve developed and launched UCAIR™, an air cleaning system for indoor air pollution abatement, and generated an $8 million annual savings through restructuring, divesting, and selling non-core operations.

In 1992, he left the large corporate world for the opportunity to serve as the President and CEO of Quantix Systems, a subsidiary of DNA Plant Technology Corporation. As a transformational change leader, he strategically turned around the business and refocused its direction as a developer, manufacturer, and marketer of environmental analysis systems using immunoassay technology. Steve acquired exclusive and preemptive patent rights to several products and grew the business from zero to $2 million in three years; he also played a key role in raising $20 million in equity for the parent company.

Ludmerer & Associates was founded in 1994 to respond to the increasing demand for broad-based business development and consulting services by executives in diverse industries worldwide.  In 1996, Steve became the President of Petrochemical Technology Group of Top Source Technologies, where he held full P&L, strategic planning, marketing, and operating responsibility for two subsidiaries in four locations. Working With Steve

"Steve and I worked together on the board of a leading non-profit industry association, I saw him cut through the noise to get at the core issues, prevent the board from losing sight of key goals and realities, and lead the board’s most difficult or complex external negotiations. Steve’s extensive knowledge, practical business experience, relationship skills, and ability to take on daunting challenges as well as hard work led him to be the key go-to executive on the board. His leadership and talent were formally recognized by the members and the board of the association when he received the CDMA’s highest award for career achievement in growing businesses. Outside the Association, Steve is a person who advice I trust and who has been generous with his insight and guidance to the questions and concerns I have brought him related to my work at Air Products."
